The St. Joseph’s all girls coding club (the STEMettes) were invited to the Digi Diner in Margate last weekend to celebrate Raspberry Pi’s seventh birthday at a raspberry jam event for anyone interested in coding and digital making.
For the uninitiated, raspberry pi is a small low cost credit card sized computer which plugs into a computer monitor and uses a standard keyboard and mouse.
Raspberry Pi is a perfect vehicle for children to learn how to program in Scratch and Python with a versatile range of projects possible for the adventurous.
The STEMettes are currently grappling with the complexities of learning Python coding as they are aiming to send a code to the astronauts in the International Space Station – this is no “pie in the sky” but a true challenge for the girls.
