Stop, Drop, Roll was the order of the day when Max Parr visited St. Joseph’s last week to talk about fire safety in his role as Community Safety Officer for Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Focusing on what to do in a fire, the children practised their stop, drop and roll technique which has been shown to be a simple but vitally effective technique in the event of fire. Max then gave age appropriate advice on common fire hazards, how to call 999 and how to keep safe.
With the Grenfell fire still in the minds of the older children, the talk was a timely exploration of how to identify risks in the home and staf safe. The younger children had great fun trying on a fireman’s jacket and boots all the while conscious of the importance of the fire service and the incredibly brave lengths they go to to protect and prevent incidents.
