Tracey Emin is not the only local girl to cut a swathe through the contemporary art scene with Millie from St. Joseph’s giving her a close run for her money by being crowned ‘Most Promising Artist 2019′ at the recent Thanet Schools’ Young Artist Festival.
Millie’s flair for colour and artistic prowess was further recognised by the judges when she won her 4-5 age group category with her painting on the theme of “My Special World”. Not to be outdone, her classmate Seth’s vibrant and eye-catching work was also highly commended by the judges.
Now in its tenth year, the competition’s popularity continues to grow with 43 schools involved this year with over 700 paintings to view. Rn b the Thanet Rotary Club and supported by the new Margate School, all the age group winners had their paintings professionally framed and exhibited at the local Sainsburys and then at the new Margate School.
Thanet’s art scene is clearly bursting with talent at a young level with a bright future ahead to rival the Tuners and Emins !
