30 new Pizzaioli recruits reported for duty at Ramsgate Pizza Express last week in the shape of St Joseph’s Year 6.
Learning the science of dough making and how to then make the perfect pizza base were two of the many activities on offer at the morning run by Pizza Express to introduce children to food preparation and hygiene and to promote healthy lifestyle choices.
All of the children were encouraged to touch and taste a wide variety of the pizza ingredients on offer with guidance on the origins, production techniques and uses associated with all the food items on the menu. For some children, it was a first introduction to some of the staples of the Italian menu and they embraced the culinary opportunity with gusto.
Flour, tomato, basil and mozzarella were then liberally used to good effect with all the St Joseph Pizzaioli making their own pizza before returning to school later that day to resume their “day jobs”. The school was then filled with the tantalising aromas of the 30 individualised pizzas which the paper hat clad pupils brought back to school in takeaway boxes to eat for a late lunch much to the collective envy of the rest of the School !
Year 6 would like to thank the staff at Pizza Express Ramsgate for this opportunity to cook, taste and learn.
