Loath to let the English football team steal all the limelight, the 210 pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School made their bid for sporting glory last week at the annual School Sports Day. Gloriously blue skies ushered in the full day of sport with Mr Jones, the sports coach, ensuring that everyone was kept busy with a full morning of team activities including howler throwing, football shooting, standing long jump, skipping, an obstacle race and hoop shooting. Some committed performances ensured that that the following children were crowned their class champions and rewarded with much coveted trophies :-
Jamie, Esmae, Jacob, Farrah, Shaniequa, Farrah, Elijah, Alice, William, A’Shirah, Sienna, Alex, Yuri and
Natalia. Well done sporting champs !
Parents and supporters then joined the children for an afternoon of relay racing with a highlight for many being the parent, staff and toddler races which lived up to expectation with some notable performances and heroic efforts to cross the finishing line !
A highlight of the school year and for once not at the mercy of the weather, the event is a way for our whole school community to join together and celebrate the team spirit, enthusiasm and camaraderie that coming together in a shared task engenders.
Well done everyone who participated and joined in the fun which was a fitting culmination of National Sports Week 2018.
