Whilst the eyes of the country were fixed on our Lionesses, our own St. Joseph’s Sporting Lions roared this week at the annual St. Joseph’s Sports Day.
A wonderful day of sunshine heralded a packed day of sporting activity for the whole school. Class events were held throughout the morning followed by an afternoon of racing. Races for toddlers, staff and parents completed a busy programme.
Trophies for the highest point scoring boy and girl in every class were awarded with all eyes on the main prize – the House Cup – which this year went to the Reds!
Tracey Ballard, the Asda Community Champion, provided a variety of refreshments for the mid-afternoon break for the children which was greatly appreciated as sporting endeavours under a hot sun made the fruit a much-anticipated pit stop for hungry sportsmen and women!
Relays, obstacle races and sprints formed the bread and butter of the afternoon programme with a hotly contested staff race crowning the ever-popular Mr. Jones as staff champion. An attempt at a stewards inquiry by a disgruntled losing staff member was dimissed as sour grapes thus confirming Mr. Jones’ sprinting prowess for the official record.
