STEMettes rise to the challenge

There was serious work for the STEMettes at the end of World Book Day last week as the Queen of Hearts, a visiting Dorothy from Kansas, Mrs. McGonagall and Miss Peregrine amongst an array of ladies from ‘Other Lands’ made a morse buzzer under the watchful eye of John Hislop (dressed as himself!!)

The girls rose to the challenge and deftly assembled the buzzer with a battery, circuit and switch and were then able to transmit a SOS signal.

STEMettes is a club for girls in Years 3 – 6 and is part of a national drive during the 2018 ‘Year of Engineer’ to promote STEM subjects within schools to enhance and widen girls’ experience of STEM with a view to widening and diversifying the pool of recruits to the profession in the future.
