An embarrassment of sporting riches was on offer last weekend with pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School Broadstairs representing the School at cross country and swimming events.
Nine children from KS2 participated in the annual Thanet Primary Schools Cross Country Event held at Quex Park with 2 outstanding performances from Natalia Austin in year 4 and Lola Sutton in year 5 winning their respective year group event. With a large field of competitors, both girls distinguished themselves from the pack with their stamina and mental tenacity and won in convincing style.
Well done to all nine children – Yuri, Lewis, Sophia, Oliver, Alex, Saskia, William, Natalia and Lola- and their parents for taking part in the event which is a favourite on the Thanet Schools’ Calendar.
The St Joseph’s runners then handed the sporting baton onto 6 swimmers from years 5 and 6 who travelled to the Medway Park Sports Centre in Gillingham to participate in 50m races in all 4 strokes as part of the Kent Primary Schools Swimming Championships 2016. For a small school, we were very proud to enter 6 out of a possible 8 races with Toby Cook in year 6 being placed first in his 50m butterfly event after an outstanding and hotly contested race. Impressing all with their sang froid in front of a capacity crowd, our boys and girls squads performed brilliantly under pressure with three of the girls achieving a personal best in their individual races.
For a small school, we are proud to have such a wealth of sporting enthusiasm and talent demonstrating the true St Joseph’s spirit of gamesmanship and team spirit. Well done everyone involved !
