St Joseph’s dedicated participation in a long, fruitful year of sport was rewarded this week by a podium finish at the 7th Anniversary Thanet Passport Awards held at Margate Winter Gardens. The Awards recognise the sporting success and endeavour of primary school children across Thanet with over 4000 children signed up to the scheme.
St Joseph’s was awarded Silver status under the Schools Game Mark Scheme in recognition of the infectious enthusiasm and hard work of our pupils and of our amazing sports coach Mr V Jones, who has worked unstintingly to increase the participation, engagement and inclusivity levels of our pupils in a diverse and challenging array of sports and competitions. With sportsmanship on and off the pitch and fun in a supportive environment keynotes for all he does, Mr Jones has galvanised our school community to unprecedented sporting success this year across the age groups.
The Award was presented to the School by former Olympic medal winning relay and 200m athlete John Regis MBE.
Under Mr Jones’s guiding hand, St Joseph’s has participated in over 20 of the Thanet Passport events throughout the year from skipping, rugby, football, cross country, dodgeball to badminton. Our School is proud to support Thanet Passport which is a non-profit making organisation run by a committee of primary school practitioners. It is based on a unique model of inter school sporting collaboration within Thanet. The aim is to encourage as many children as possible to try sport regardless of ability, an ethos that has strong resonance within our own school community.
