Living up to the old adage that the best things come in small packages, Lola Sutton of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Broadstairs gilded an already glittering lily by adding to her running and swimming trophy collection in emphatic style throughout February. A statisticians’ delight, Lola spent 5 weeks at 2 London venues to win 2 gold medals, 1 silver and 2 bronze at the Kent County Amateur Swimming Championships 2017. Swimming against the cream of the county, Lola’s determination, stamina and sheer saing froid ensured an incredible medal tally of golds in 400m freestyle and 200 butterfly, a silver in 100 butterfly and 2 bronzes in 50 freestyle and 200 Individual Medley.
Dogged by ill health throughout the month, Lola was scheduled to swim in an astonishing 12 events overall throughout the championship but was forced to withdraw from some races, probably to the relief of the other Under 11 competitors !
Not content with dominating the pool, Lola’s talent was also recognised last weekend on terra firma when she was awarded the Under 11 Girls’ title in the Kent Cross Country League where she had dominated the season by winning every race on the calendar. Fleet of foot and strategy savvy, Lola is a definite one to watch… if our eyes can keep up with her
