Throughout this term we have had lots of fun learning all about the BFG (Big Friendly Giant).
During circle time we discussed the main characters and enjoyed acting them out through role-play. We also held a competition to see who could build the most imaginative cave for the giant in our small world area. Each group worked together to listen to one another’s ideas to make a magical creation to be proud of.
We incorporated the story of The BFG into our literacy lessons. In our writing we thought about some adjectives that could best describe the main characters. We formed some super sentences and added to them to create a short story about a good dream. We then decorated our dream jars to look like the story was pouring out!
Year 1 have shown some great creativity when making our own dream jars! To create our jars we filled half with water. Next we added the right colour of paint, glitter and gems to match our dream. Then, glued them shut so our dream didn’t escape. Lastly, we could then shake our jar to see all of the glitter shimmering.
During this term we have also performed during our class assembly around The BFG. Every child impressed Miss Meacham with their confidence when speaking and beautiful singing voices during some solos and whole class singing.
