Year 1 at St Joseph’s Broadstairs celebrated the last day before Lent by showcasing their pancake making skills. The class’s dexterity at flipping pancakes was only outdone by their capacity to eat them. The children made the batter, flipped the pancakes and then chose from a concoction of toppings which had been donated by parents.
The children had visited our parish Church, Our Lady Star of the Sea , the preceding day when Father Philip Seed had spoken to them about Shrove Tuesday, its history and meaning. The visit gave the children a chance to reflect on the coming weeks with the message that it is important to see Lent as a period of celebration for what God has given rather than focusing on giving things up.
