Year 4

Year 4 Term 1 2018-19

In Term One we have learnt lots already!

In English, we studied Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I really enjoy studying Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because it’s a fun book to read; I love the book, and the work that we do about it is absolutely fabulous!!! So far, we’ve discovered that Charlie and his family are very poor and that Charlie loves chocolate.

We also studied animals and their habitats in Science, including sharks, polar bears and lions.

In History, I have really enjoyed learning about Ancient Egypt. We have learnt that in 19222 Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings.

In Maths, we have learnt to add and subtract fractions. Number lines and addition were really fun to do. We also went outside to practise them on the playground, using chalk.

We are looking forward to our Ancient Egyptian Discovery Day at Kent Life next term…

Year 4 Term 3

We are back at school after the Christmas holidays, and there is so much to look forward to in Year 4!

In History, Mrs Mileham is going to be teaching us about the Vikings, and we will be making our own Viking shields – we saw last year’s ones and they looked really impressive! We will learn about how the Vikings lived, and about the ships they sailed in. I can’t wait!

In Science, Mr Pavelin will be telling us all about States of Matter. He told us that we will have the opportunity to pretend to be different molecules out in the playground, so that we can understand the difference between solids, liquids and gases.

I enjoy Maths, and this term I am looking forward to learning about factors, 2d shapes and symmetry. We are going to carry on working on our Word Problems too. I like those, because the question might tell us about a boy or a girl who has some money to spend, and we have to work out how many different toys they can buy with their pocket money.

In English we are going to be reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It’s a book by C.S.Lewis. My auntie read it when she was eight, and she said it was brilliant!

Term 4 Year 4

History

In history we are going to do the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons, I am really excited to do this because I love history!

Music

In music, we will be doing Keyboards, but not only that we are also going to compose our own music! I am definitely looking forward to this because I am a big fan of music!

Science Week

On the 11th of March is the start of Science Week and we are going to go to St George’s to visit its Laboratory. We are going to the beach and the park to compare and contrast the different environments! I’m really looking to this because I know it’s going to be good fun!
