Year 5 had an amazing day in London, watching Matilda, the musical, which we had been studying in Literacy during Term 1!
In year 5 this term, we will be studying the Ancient Greeks in history. This will allow the children to do lots of cross-curricular work in Literacy (studying myths and legends), in Art (designing and making Greek shields, masks and clay plates) and in ICT where they will carry out a research project.
In science, we are learning about our Solar System, including singing the names of planets, day & night, the seasons and the phases of the moon. We will also have a very exciting Science Week in March, finishing with an another amazing trip to London (to the Science Museum this time).
As always, we have a very rich and varied Maths curriculum, covering a wide number of topics, and we will be studying The Iron Man, followed by Gangsta Granny in English. Our RE topic is ‘Inspirational People’, so we will reflect on those who inspire us and what we can do to inspire others. There will also be opportunuties for a range of sporting events and the choir will be participating in The Festival of Song at the Winter Gardens!
Year 5 have started Term 6 with an interesting and exciting day of Science and Technology at Chatham and Clarendon House Grammar School. The children were able to participate in a wide range of activities including a Maths challenge to solve a murder, Chemistry to pan for gold, DT to make keyrings and print T-Shirts and Food Tech making apple and cinnamon rock cakes!
We are also looking forward to a busy last term where we will be taking part in the KCSP Picnic and Praise day and our in-house Sports Week along with many other inter-school Sport and Maths competitions.
