Year 5

Year 5 had an amazing day in London, watching Matilda, the musical, which we had been studying in Literacy during Term 1! year 5 this term, we will be studying the Ancient Greeks in history. This will allow the children to do lots of cross-curricular work in Literacy (studying myths and legends), in Art (designing and making Greek shields, masks and clay plates) and in ICT where they will carry out a research project.

In science, we are learning about our Solar System, including singing the names of planets, day & night, the seasons and the phases of the moon.  We will also have a very exciting Science Week in March, finishing with an another amazing trip to London (to the Science Museum this time).

As always, we have a very rich and varied Maths curriculum, covering a wide number of topics, and we will be studying The Iron Man, followed by Gangsta Granny in English. Our RE topic is ‘Inspirational People’, so we will reflect on those who inspire us and what we can do to inspire others. There will also be opportunuties for a range of sporting events and the choir will be participating in The Festival of Song at the Winter Gardens!
